Tour the Boat

Oso Blanco is a 47' seaworthy trawler built by Pacific Asian Enterprise, PAE under the brand name Nordhavn.  She was built in China and commissioned in Dana Point, CA.  Our wonderful salesman was Brad Smith, who has become a dear friend.  We highly recommend him if you want to learn more about Nordhavns.

A Nordhavn is a long range, ocean going trawler. Powered by a single diesel engine, it is designed to have the capability of crossing oceans and therefore take the owner anywhere in the world. While a forty seven foot boat may seem big to inland sailors, by ocean standards it's a small vessel to have "passagemaker" capabilities. Obvious requirements for the task are sea worthiness, efficient hull/powerplant combination, large fuel capacity, and highly reliable systems. The Nordhavn 47 is the sister ship to the Nordhavn 40 which was used to demonstrate to the "doubters" that a boat this size was indeed a "passagemaker", The Company pulled a standard 40 boat off the production line and successfully circumnavigated the globe in a little over six months in 2003.

The displacement hull is very efficient, however the boat's speed through the water is limited by it's " hull speed"...all the power in the world would not make it go faster. Consequently we don't go anywhere very fast...we cruise in the seven to eight knot range. Thus we cruise at the speed of most sailboats, with all the comforts of a powerboat.

Whenever we have mechanical issues, we attribute it to the Oso Blanco who lives in the engine room!  Can PAE get him out of there?
