October 9, 2005 A rare site
indeed! Out of the fog came a patrol
boat with its lights on, coming right toward us. It motioned
for us to move to starbaord. We had no idea why. Then we
saw it! Out of the fog emerged a nuclear submarine! Look
carefully, you can see men standing in their orange rain gear up on
the conn. Very cool siting! (Click on photo for
bigger look.)

After a wonderful summer in Wisconsin, we are back on Oso Blanco.
After a few years of agonizing, we finally sold our house in Minnesota. It
actually sold last May but we put off the closing until October 4th - the day
before we returned to Oso. Now that it is done, it is a relief.
In its place, when we are in Minnesota, we will be staying with Eric's mother in
Hopkins. She was kind enough to let us set up a bedroom there for the
three of us. We stayed there for almost a week before coming here and it
worked out beautifully.
Bear has taken all the changes - from cabin, to MN house, to Grandma's, and
back to boat - all in stride. We are so lucky to have such a flexible
little boy. He is as inquisitive as ever and has had to relearn some of
the boat rules now that we are back.
Oso spent the summer in Norfolk, VA where Atlantic Yacht Basin took
very good care of her. After a couple days of settling back in and
provisioning, we headed north today into the Chesapeake Bay. We had
planned on a short three hour day to Portsmouth but it was raining so hard (we
caught the tail end of the latest tropical storm) that we kept going. We
are anchored in the East River branch of Mobjack Bay. The two days of rain
finally stopped and sun came out just as we dropped anchor. So we
experienced a gorgeous evening overlooking the bay.
Our destination is Annapolis, MD by Wednesday. We are meeting our
friends, Alex and Deb and Ron and Kathleen, there for the Annapolis Boat show.
EB is also coming to spend some time with us.
It feels great to be back on the boat!!!
