Alaska Itinerary

From Ganges, BC to Juneau, Alaska - 2008 (and back)

Day by Day Summary of Passage to and from Alaska for reference to others who are planning this trip.  This is about a 100 day itinerary.

May 29:  Ganges through Dodd Narrows (at hi slack).  Anchored Boho anchorage at Lasquati Island

May 30:  Anchored Gorge Harbor (great restaurant)

May 31:  Through Dent Rapids (wait for slack tide).  Anchored Chamaleon Bay

June 1st:  Through Johnston Straights (saw Orcas).  Anchored Blundon Harbor.

June 2nd:  Passed Cape Caution and anchored Phillips Inlet (very narrow and beautiful)

June 3rd:  To Shearwater Marina - across from Bella Bella.  Two nights.  Restaurant ok.

June 5th:  Took Reid Passage (very narrow and beautiful).  Anchored Bottleneck Inlet.

June 6th:  Khuntz Inlet - amazing! Saw first grizzly. 

June 7th:  Up Frzser's Reach to Bishop Bay Hot Springs - very cool place - then went on to anchor at Coghlan

June 8th:  Arrived at Baker Inlet - very narrow entrance - caught five Dungeness crabs

June 9th:  Baker to Prince Rupert.

June 10th:  Called Customs in Ketchikan to report transit the next day

June 11th:  Departed Prince Rupert and entered Alaska.  Cleared customs at Ketchikan Bar Harbor -  no problems

June 14th:  Departed Ketchikan (after fueling there) and docked at Meyers Chuck.

June 15th:  Anchored at Santa Ana Inlet.

June 16th:  Stopped at Anan Bear Observatory - no bears.  Then on to Wrangell City Dock.

June 18th:  Wrangell to Petersburg through Wrangell Narrows.

June 20th:  Petersburg to Tracy Arm Cove anchorage.  (Tracy Arm is a MUST.)

June 21st:  Juneau - Harris Harbor.

We based out of Juneau for a month for guests to visit.  During that time we spent several days in Tracy Arm, five days in Glacier Bay, Hoonah, Skagway, and the area.

July 24-29:  Sitka

July 29:  Sitka to Hot Springs Bay, through Dorothy Narrows and anchored in Baidarke Cove.

July 30th:  Departed through Second Narrows, into open Pacific - anchored Evergreen Cove, Pacific side of Baranoff Island

July 31st:  Anchored in Egg Harbor - explored caves

August 1st:  Entered El Capitan Passage.  Anchored Devilfish Bay.

August 2nd:  Anchored Kaguk Bay, north of Tonowak Narrows

August 3rd:  Craig, AK - South Harbor - three days here

August 6th:  Skookum Chuck Narrows - 6kt current pushing us! Anchored Mable Bay.

August 7th:  Anchored at the head of Nichols Bay.  (Last day in Alaska)

August 8th:  Crossed Dixon Entrance to Prince Rupert - cleared customs - no problems

August 10th:  Tried to visit Cannery Museum but no dock.  Anchored Kumealan Inlet.

August 11th:  Up Greenville Channel to Lowe's Inlet.  Lots of salmon swimming upstream.

August 13th:  To Khuntz Inlet in heavy fog.

August 14th:  Transited two narrow passages: Meyers and Thistle. Anchored in the Bay of Plenty up the Laredo Inlet.

August 16th:  Left Laredo and anchored in Oliver Cove.

August 17th:  Shearwater Marina - stayed three nights due to weather

August 20th:  Departed Shearwater and anchored at Green Island

August 21st: Arrived Port Hardy

August 24th:  Departed Port Hardy after waiting for good weather; docked at Port Neville

August 25th:  Docked at Blind Channel

August 26th:  Docked at Dent Island

August 27th:  Anchored at Gorge Harbor

August 28th:  Anchored Garden Bay in Pender Harbor

August 29th: Docked at Union Steamship Marina in Snug Cove

August 30th:  Docked in Vancouver
